LA FORZA COGNITIVA DELLA METAFORA: CONVERGENZE E DIVERGENZE NEL DIBATTITO NOVECENTESCO

Abstract

The interaction view and the theory of conceptual metaphor have offered a decisive contribution to the development of an interdisciplinary field of study that is now unanimous in attributing to the metaphor a cognitive force. The paper, however, shows that there are considerable differences between these approaches: from Richards to Black, from Black to Lakoff & Johnson, the focus of the investigation shifts, and change both the paradigms of reference as the ways of understanding the relationships between thought and language, between heuristic and creative value of metaphorical processes.
