Abstract

With an imaginary identification, Jacques Rancière considers Emma Bovary's experience as a literary equivalent of workers' emancipation. Starting from its aesthetic-political categories, the article proposes a critical reading of Madame Bovary as a scene of dissent in which the conflict with the dominant language and the dis-identification with respect to "natural" destiny are embodied in a conceptual character which he attributes to himself by transgression that capacity that belongs to anyone to participate in the configuration of the partition of the sensitive and to modify one's own form of life.
